D: Fun and Games in an MSL Lesson
Presenter: Corey Zylstra, Orton-Gillingham Trainer and Director, REACH Learning Centre
Playing games and inviting opportunity for fun interaction with our students allows them to feel more comfortable in their learning environment. Games encourage practising valuable concepts to mastery under the auspices of enjoyment. Intrigued students will be more attentive and more willing to take risks in their learning.
This energetic and interactive presentation will show how hands-on activities can be utilized during MSL/OG lessons and will provide tutors and other educators with several great activities that can be integrated the following Monday.
Specific Learning Goals:
A variety of games and activities will be demonstrated to the audience and provided for participants in hard copy. These activities suit tutors and teachers of elementary and high school students and address a variety of focus areas including: spelling rules, phonograms, syllables, morphology and penmanship.
Biographical Information
Corey Zylstra is a practising Orton-Gillingham Tutor,Supervisor and certified Trainer for the Canadian Academy of Therapeutic Tutors, Orton-Gillingham and the Surrey College in British Columbia. She has served on several non-profit boards and is currently an advisor for the International Dyslexia Association, BC Branch. Ms. Zylstra is co-founder of the REACH Orton-Gillingham Learning Centre, where she currently serves as a director. She has made more than 50 conference and workshop presentations within Canada, the United States and in the Middle East. In her 18 years of experience in the field of Special Education, Corey has authored and co-authored several publications and has developed a wide array of materials to aid in literacy teaching.
